Insurance Roofing Contractor in Reading, PA
A roofer who also knows how claims work. HAAG Certified inspection, Xactimate scopes in the same format your carrier uses, adjuster meetings on the roof, and supplements pursued when the first scope misses something — with the roof itself built by our own crews.
What an insurance roofing contractor does differently
Most roofers can install a roof. Far fewer can carry a homeowner through a claim without leaving money on the table, because a claim is a documentation and negotiation exercise, and the carrier has done thousands of them while you have done one. The difference is not the shingles; it is what happens in the weeks before them.
The Helping Company sits on both sides of that line. We are a licensed roofing contractor (PA HIC #PA149251) with our own crews, and we are an IICRC Certified Firm whose owner is HAAG Certified in storm damage assessment — the same training insurance adjusters receive. That combination is unusual in Berks County, and it is why insurance restoration is the largest part of what we do. If you are still deciding whether your roof has a claim at all, start with our storm damage page; this page is about what happens once you do.
How the claim process works, step by step
- 1. Free inspection and honest read. Drone survey, chalk-tested hail impacts, wind-pattern check, collateral damage on gutters and soft metals. If there is not a legitimate claim, we say so — a denied claim still goes on your record.
- 2. You file the claim. It is your policy and your call; we help you make it with the facts in hand and explain what to expect on the call.
- 3. We meet the adjuster on the roof. This is where most homeowners lose money. We walk the adjuster through every documented item so nothing is missed because nobody pointed at it.
- 4. The scope, in Xactimate. We write our estimate in the same software your carrier uses, with the same regional pricing. A disagreement becomes a conversation about a specific line item, not an argument about a total.
- 5. Supplements. Initial adjuster scopes routinely miss items — code-required ice-and-water shield, drip edge, ventilation, steep or high charges, decking that is only discovered at tear-off. We document and submit the supplement with evidence. This is normal, not adversarial.
- 6. The build. Our own crews install the roof to the approved scope, with photos throughout.
- 7. Depreciation release. Most policies pay actual cash value first and release recoverable depreciation only after the work is complete and invoiced. We submit that paperwork so you actually receive the second payment.
ACV, RCV, supplements and your deductible — plainly
RCV (replacement cost value) is what it costs to replace the roof today. ACV (actual cash value) is RCV minus depreciation for age. Most claims pay ACV up front, then release the recoverable depreciation once the work is done. Homeowners who do not know about the second check frequently never collect it.
A supplement is a documented request to add items the original scope missed. Carriers expect them; the initial adjuster is often on your roof for twenty minutes and cannot see what a tear-off reveals.
Your deductible is your share of the loss, and it is yours to pay. In Pennsylvania a contractor who offers to "waive," "absorb" or "cover" a deductible is committing insurance fraud and exposing you to the same. We do not do it, and a contractor who offers it is telling you how they run the rest of the job.
What we will and will not promise
We will document your roof thoroughly, represent it accurately, and pursue every legitimate line item. We will not promise that your claim will be approved, that a specific amount will be paid, or that your roof will be free. Those outcomes belong to your policy and your carrier. Any contractor who guarantees them is either guessing or lying.
Red flags of storm-chasing contractors
- They knocked on your door after the storm and are not from here. Ask where their office is. Ours is at 306 N. Kenhorst Blvd in Reading.
- They offer to cover your deductible. See above.
- They want you to sign an assignment of benefits or a contract before the adjuster has been out. You do not need to sign anything to get an inspection.
- They promise the claim will be approved. Nobody can promise that.
- They have no PA HIC number, no local reviews, and no insurance certificate they will show you. Our guide to choosing a roofing contractor in Berks County covers what to verify.
Why local matters for an insurance job
An insurance roof is not finished when the shingles are on. There is the depreciation paperwork, the warranty, and sometimes a question from the carrier months later. A contractor who followed the storm out of the county cannot answer it. We have been in Reading for over 20 years, we are here after the check clears, and every roof we install carries our Lifetime Workmanship Guarantee.
We handle insurance roofing throughout Berks County — Reading, Wyomissing, Sinking Spring, Mohnton, Shillington, West Reading — and the surrounding counties in our service area. For the broader picture across roofing, siding and interior restoration, see our main insurance claims page.

Insurance Roofing Contractor FAQs
Do I need to get three quotes for an insurance roof?
No. That is a retail habit that does not apply to a claim. The carrier pays the approved scope at their pricing regardless of which contractor you use; what matters is whether your contractor documents the roof well enough that the approved scope is complete. Choose the contractor you trust to do that and to build the roof properly.
Can you talk to my insurance company for me?
We meet the adjuster on the roof, walk through the documentation, submit the Xactimate scope and any supplements, and handle the depreciation paperwork. The policy is yours, so you file the claim and remain the decision-maker — we make sure you are making decisions with complete information.
What is a supplement, and will it delay my roof?
A supplement is a documented request to add items the initial adjuster scope missed — commonly code-required ice-and-water shield, drip edge, ventilation, or decking found at tear-off. It is a routine part of the process, not a dispute, and we submit it with photos. It can add some time before the final payment, but the roof itself is not usually delayed.
Can you waive my deductible?
No, and no legitimate contractor can. In Pennsylvania, a contractor offering to waive, absorb or rebate a deductible is committing insurance fraud, and the homeowner who accepts is exposed as well. Your deductible is your share of the loss. We will tell you exactly what it is before you commit to anything.
My claim was denied. Is there anything you can do?
Often, yes. Denials are frequently based on an incomplete first inspection. A HAAG Certified re-inspection with proper documentation can support a request for reinspection or an appeal. We will look at the denial letter and the roof and give you an honest read on whether it is worth pursuing.
Do you handle insurance claims for siding and interior damage too?
Yes. Storms rarely damage only the roof, and water rarely stays on it. We handle siding, gutters and — as an IICRC Certified Firm — interior water damage under the same claim, which keeps a carrier from splitting the loss between trades. See our full insurance claims page.
