Roof Repair in Reading, PA
Leaks, missing shingles, failed flashing and storm damage — fixed properly, priced in writing, and only after we tell you honestly whether a repair is the right call. Emergency tarping available 24/7.
Repair or replace? We will tell you the truth.
Most roofing companies make more money on a replacement than a repair, and it shows in what they recommend. We are headquartered in Reading at 306 N. Kenhorst Blvd and we plan to be here for a long time, so our approach is simple: if a repair will genuinely solve the problem and give you years more service, we say so and we do the repair. If the roof is at the end of its life and a repair would be throwing money at a failing system, we say that too — and we show you the photos that back it up.
The honest answer usually comes down to three things: the age of the roof, how widespread the damage is, and whether the problem is the shingles themselves or a specific detail like flashing, a valley or a pipe boot. A single failed pipe boot on a ten-year-old roof is a repair. Curling, granule-bare shingles across every slope of a 25-year-old roof is not — see our Reading roof replacement cost guide for what that path looks like.
Common roof problems we repair in Reading
- Leaks at flashing. The single most common repair. Chimney, step, pipe-boot and wall flashing fail long before the shingles around them do. Reading’s masonry chimneys and shared party walls make this especially common.
- Low-slope rear roofs. The kitchen or porch roof on a Reading rowhome or twin is often nearly flat and was shingled when it should have been membrane. Water ponds, backs up under the shingles and comes through the ceiling. We repair with the correct low-slope system.
- Wind-lifted or missing shingles. Straight-line wind creases and lifts shingles along the edges and ridge. Left open, one missing shingle becomes a rotted deck section by next spring.
- Box and built-in gutter failure. Older city homes carry gutters inside the roofline. When the liner fails, water runs into the cornice and the wall, not off the edge.
- Hail bruising. Invisible from the ground, but it breaks the shingle mat and the roof fails early. If a storm has crossed Reading recently, this is an insurance question before it is a repair question.
- Attic condensation mistaken for a leak. A surprising share of "leaks" we are called to are actually poor attic ventilation. We check before we charge you for a roof repair you do not need.
Emergency roof repair and leak response
When water is actively coming in, the first job is to stop it, not to write a proposal. We answer 610-234-2210 around the clock and carry tarping and board-up material on the truck. We dry-in the roof so the damage stops getting worse, then come back for the permanent repair in daylight when it can be done properly.
Because we are also an IICRC Certified Firm for water damage restoration, any interior damage — a saturated ceiling, wet insulation, water in a wall cavity — is handled by the same company rather than a subcontractor. That matters most when insurance is involved and a carrier is trying to split the loss between trades.
How a repair works with us
- 1. Inspection, free. We get on the roof or fly it with a drone, use thermal imaging where a leak source is not obvious, and photograph what we find.
- 2. The honest call. Repair, or replace — with the photos and the reasoning, not a sales pitch.
- 3. Written, itemized price. One number that does not change unless you change the scope. No "we found something" surprises mid-job.
- 4. The repair. Matched shingles where we can source them, new flashing rather than caulk over old, correct low-slope material where it belongs.
- 5. After photos and a warranty. You see what we did. Workmanship on repairs is warranted in writing.
When storm damage turns a repair into an insurance claim
If the damage was caused by a covered event — hail, wind, a fallen limb — your homeowners policy may cover the repair or, where the damage is widespread, a full replacement, less your deductible. Whether it does depends on your policy and the evidence, and the evidence has to be documented before anything is patched over. Our owner is HAAG Certified in storm damage assessment; if we think you have a legitimate claim we will say so, and if we think you do not, we will say that too rather than push you into filing. Our insurance roofing page explains exactly how that process works.

Roof Repair FAQs
How much does a roof repair cost in Reading, PA?
It depends on what has failed. A single pipe boot or a short run of step flashing is a small job; a low-slope rear section that needs the right membrane, or a section of rotted decking under a long-ignored leak, is a larger one. We do not quote from a price list over the phone because that number is almost always wrong. We inspect for free and give you a written itemized price before any work starts.
Do you do emergency roof repair?
Yes. We answer 610-234-2210 24 hours a day and can tarp or board up a roof that is actively leaking to stop the damage getting worse, then complete the permanent repair when it can be done properly. If there is interior water damage we handle that too, as an IICRC Certified Firm.
Can you repair just one section of my roof?
Often, yes — a leaking valley, a flashing detail, a wind-damaged slope. The honest caveat is matching: shingles fade, and a repaired section on an older roof will be visible. We tell you that up front and source the closest match available.
My roof is leaking but I cannot see any damage. Why?
Because most leaks are not where the water shows up. Water enters at a flashing detail or a nail pop, travels along the underlayment or a rafter, and appears several feet away. We trace it with thermal imaging rather than guessing, and we also check whether the "leak" is actually attic condensation from poor ventilation, which is more common than people expect.
Will insurance cover my roof repair?
Only if the damage was caused by a covered event, typically wind or hail, and only as your policy defines it. Normal wear, age and deferred maintenance are not covered. We document the damage and tell you honestly whether we think a claim is worth filing; we never guarantee an outcome, and we cannot waive or absorb a deductible — in Pennsylvania that is insurance fraud.
